BIOGRAPHY OF JOHN E. ODEN
John E. Oden is a Principal of AllianceBernstein L.P., a global money management and research firm headquarted in New York City. Mr. Oden is a sixteen-year veteran on the money management side of the firm%2C and works with a wide variety of the firm's clients including corporations%2C endowments%2C foundations%2C pension funds%2C family offices%2C trusts and estates%2C and individual investors to develop and implement asset allocation and investment strategies. He joined the firm in 1992.
Prior to joining Bernstein%2C Mr. Oden spent ten years in investment banking%2C most recently as a Managing Director of Cushman %26 Wakefield in New York%2C where he was responsible nationally for the firm's investment sales business with financial institutions. Mr. Oden also served as Director of Institutional Placement in the Real Estate Group of the Corporate Finance Department of Drexel Burnham Lambert%2C Inc. in New York and Beverly Hills%2C California%2C in addition to being Executive Vice President of Drexel Burnham Realty%2C the firm's real estate brokerage subsidiary.
Mr. Oden has many civic%2C cultural and philanthropic interests%2C in addition to his athletic interests. He is on the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the Merchant's House Museum. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Napoleonic Society%2C a member of the Metropolitan Opera Club%2C and a Patron of Carnegie Hall. He is former member of the Board of Trustees of the Manhattan School of Music, and a former member of the Board of Directors of New Dramatists. Mr. Oden graduated from the University of Texas at Austin%2C where he received B.B.A. and M.B.A. degrees. He is a past President of the University of Texas Alumni Association of New York.
Mr.Oden is a member and active participant on both the New York Athletic Club Boxing Team and the Gleason's Gym International Traveling Team. For Gleason's%2C he has fought on three separate occasions at black tie fundraisers in London benefiting various charities. It was through his connection to Gleason's that Mr. Oden met and helped prepare Academy Award winning actress Hilary Swank for her now legendary role as Maggie Fitzgerald in the film Million Dollar Baby%2C the Academy Award winning best picture of 2005.
As two examples of how he has used boxing as a platform to provide charitable and financial assitance to people on a global basis, Oden was highlighted in the November 29th%2C 2004 issue of BusinessWeek Magazine for his efforts in London where he personally competed in Hedge Fund Fight Night%2C a black tie fundraiser for the hedge fund community to raise money for Operation Smile%2C an organization which provides reconstructive facial surgery to children and adults around the globe. In addition, Mr. Oden also was in Greece to support U.S. Olympians in the 2004 Olympics%2C as a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee's Sixth Ring Organization%2C a group that provides financial support to Olympians.
